Curl is a kinetic and interactive surface that brings playfulness to any space and engages people’s imaginations and innate desire to touch, explore, and create. Through a simple pull and lock system, users are invited to activate the surface and manipulate the texture and color in a single motion. By revealing new layers of color underneath, the surface and, in turn, the space is transformed. By raising parts of the surface, new textures form, and unique patterns can be created.
Curl was developed out of a research project that investigated and experimented with kinetic and interactive surfaces for interiors, building facades, and other architectural elements. Simple paper folding techniques, elements of Kirigami, and strategic material layering were used to explore movement and transformation.
